Extended Family

Each May, Village School has a wonderful celebration – Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day. This annual spring event is a longtime tradition that is valued by everyone in the school community.

Parent volunteers decorate the campus with flowers and balloons, and provide a sumptuous breakfast to begin the morning festivities. After a few welcoming remarks from the Head of School, grandparents and special friends are entertained by the Village Singers with songs that put a smile on the face of each person in the audience. Guests are then escorted to their grandchild’s or special friend’s classroom in which each grade level has planned something special for our extended family. Year after year, grandparents and special friends marvel at the exciting curriculum that continues to engage Village School students all year long. After the classroom visits, guests are taken in hand by children to the Book Fair and to view the Art Exhibit and Science Fair.

I have enormous faith in the future of my grandchildren as they are guided by the teachers and staff at Village School.

Students look forward to Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, as do the faculty and staff at Village School. We all understand the role our extended family plays in the life of our children, and in the life of the school as well. A few years ago, a grandparent who traveled from the east coast for the event, spoke about the experience she had during her visit. “My visit was fascinating and stimulating,” she said. “I have enormous faith in the future of my grandchildren as they are guided by the teachers and staff at Village School.”
